Just an assumption, not
every intelligent being is bilingual or multilingual. Quite the reverse–one doesn’t
have to be a genius to learn languages. But I’m buying the idea that having the
intellect is a plus factor–wish I had the dexterity. Glad I’ve known that it’s
not all about adeptness in speaking other tongues. And so I used my resourcefulness.
If language learning is
paralleled to preparing a dish, my recipe then would be: diligence, creativity,
passion alongside with persistence–not so much with cleverness. Some are
endowed with brains, but are monolinguals; some aren’t, yet they are linguists.
