In a country where English is not the medium of teaching, you’d be surprised to know that these kids can tick survey questionnaires comprehensively. They have done it few times in my class, indeed. Two kids nurtured from two different villages had left home just to embrace the hope and vision of what this new home can offer. Fortunately, the decisions they made not so long ago were absolutely right. Not a single time of taking chances turned void. I am so honored to feature these darlings in my blog.
One is a thirteen-year-old-boy has just finished seventh grade weeks ago. He is a very intelligent and a diligent pupil looked up to by many. A hardworking kid at home and at school admired by everyone. A happy boy who always offers you a smile, no wonder he’s a friend of every creature. The politest kid respected by everyone. A youngster endowed with dignity and principle in life and also a very responsible kid. He wanted to be an engineer in the future. That is why he studies very hard night and day. You’ll never see him messing around. Amidst all these seriousness, he is still able to play with you and so talk with you in his free times, seriously or playfully.
Another darling is two years younger. She is an average student yet never misses every opportunity to learn. She is also admired by many because of her ability to speak English well, and of her receptiveness learning things. The youngest among the learners, but can carry a competitive learning as well. She is a happy girl who is not afraid to laugh out loud. She is also a soft-hearted kid, and very emotional at hand. She has just finished sixth grade few weeks ago. She wanted to be a lawyer someday. She, like the other boy is also studying harder and preparing her future at this young age. Hopefully one day her very dream will come true.
As far as their English skills are concerned, both have studied just a short period of time. But mind you, they’re seemed like studying for a long time. I, myself is amazed by the quick improvement and the many achievements they have so far.
Theara, a young boy has been studying English for more than a year, and has been my reliable interpreter. I trust his ability to translate things understandably. Surprisingly, he was one of those young educators I trained few months had passed. Now, he is helping teach the newbies who have come to learn English this summer. Aside from that, he is also a good facilitator. He is facilitating a group discussion class every afternoon. And what fascinates me the most, is his cleverness learning a TOEFL course with me.
Sokunthea, a young girl has been studying English for seven months now. I admire her eagerness to learn the language interestingly, joining two different classes – one with University students and the other with high schoolers. Can you believe that? As I said, she can carry a competitive learning. But if you asked her about her English, she would be modest enough to admit “I am still learning, not well enough.” Yet, it is already good for a seven-month-learner.
Two darlings gifted with different potentials and acclaims, yet have one thing in common – both are less privilege individuals hoping to find a guardian angel that would help them make their dreams come true someday, somehow.
God bless you, kids!
